I had got to know Chris Dooks during my undergraduate years. I had written some music for one of his short films back in the day and had wanted to take some text from his work and turn it into a piece of music. The female quote in the piece is from his work and describes an epiphany, an awakening experience of which i had a similar experience.
I used electro-acoustic techniques, sounds gathered from recordings made at The Banff Centre, Canada (where i was on a composition residency in 1994) and nordlead rhythmic elements to weave a song for this quote. There is definitely an element of the soundtrack to Cal by Mark Knopfler especially after 4mins 20secs. I used to listen to the album over and over on long car journeys.
