SUMMARY:Sheila Moylan Exhibition Performance
DESCRIPTION:IRISH ARTIST SHEILA MOYLAN PRESENTS HER FIRST SOLO EXHIBITION\, FIRE IN THE HEAD \nIrish artist\, harpist\, and singer Sheila Moylan will present her first solo exhibition at SET Ealing’s gallery space this November\, marking a significant milestone since becoming a full-time artist three years ago. \nA long-term studio holder at SET\, Moylan’s art seamlessly weaves in and reinterprets the spiral\, lozenge and circle designs inherent in Irish megalithic art\, which dates back to 3\,000 BCE\, drawing upon its myths and poetry. Her figures\, crafted from wire\, charcoal\, pencil\, and ink\, transport us to a long lost world\, populated with shape-shifters\, gods\, goddesses\, and time travellers. \nMoylan’s work represents a collaboration with the megalithic artists of 5\,000 years ago\, following the fine thread of myth that links us to their legacy. The exhibition’s title is drawn from the line “I am the God who puts fire in the head\,” originates from the oldest poem in the Irish language. The faded marks on ancient stones are brought to life through graphic art informed by Moylan’s research into the ancient art’s design principles. Beyond her visual art\, Sheila is a composer and performer of her own music. For this exhibition\, she’ll collaborate with musicians who have drawn inspiration from the exhibition’s themes to create a series of one-off live musical compositions. \nSheila Moylan writes:\, “For me\, this represents the culmination of years of unwavering dedication and scholarly pursuit. The ancient monuments of my native Ireland\, exemplified by sites like Newgrange\, have consistently inspired subsequent generations to reinterpret and superimpose their own ideas and beliefs upon them\, given that the culture that erected them lacked a written language. This absence grants artists the unique opportunity to fill the voids left by archaeology\, reaching into the past and grasping the thread of myth to breathe life into the stones\, illuminating our innate need to connect with history.” \nPerformances: Saturday 25 November 4-6 PM featuring experimental musicians Flooded Access and \nGeorgina Brett

SUMMARY:Ealing Extranormal
DESCRIPTION:A monthly showcase for sonically adventurous experimentation in West London in association with OPEN Ealing.\nAdvance tickets £12*\n£15 on the door.\n*We have a number of free guest passes for those unable to pay the price of admission. Please contact the organisers directly through this page\, one per applicant.\nThere is no bar\, so please bring your own refreshments.\nThis edition features sets from:\nJohn Macedo\nAn artist and performer from London. His work explores connections\, relationships and interdependence through revealing the hidden potential in all sounds\, environments and technologies\, often in intimate\, immersive and interactive ways.\nHe performs solo and has collaborated in an improvisational and recording context with a wide variety of musicians and artists. He has had recorded works released by The Tapeworm\, Hideous Replica\, Sound Holes\, and Beartown Records as well as releasing small run and object editions on his own label\, The Black Plume Editions. He has performed and presented work in the UK\, Europe and US and has led workshops and produced collaborative\, educational and community-based projects for Whitechapel Gallery\, South London Gallery\, Artsadmin and New Contemporaries.\nhttp://johnmacedo.co.uk/\nLeon Michener\nLondon-born pianist and composer. His unique approach to music encompasses art\, video and electronics and seeks to push beyond the boundaries of what is technically and sonically possible on the traditional piano. His Klavikon project reimagines electronic music without the use of conventional processes – no loops\, no prerecorded music\, and no samples. Instead\, all sounds\, kicks\, snares\, bass and pads are created by preparing an amplified piano\, an “acoustic workstation”\, sequenced only by fingers\, allowing human vagaries to triumph over quantised accuracy. Unique inventions and found objects – a custom-made pickup\, a robot toy dog\, vibrators\, and lots of Blu-tak\, augment the 88 keys delivering cascading batteries of percussion\, sub-basses and dark abstract soundscapes. This amalgam of virtuosic piano technique and real-time electronic processing is at once connected with dance genres and 20th-century classical music.\nhttps://www.instagram.com/leon.michener.klavikon/\nGeorgina Brett\nGeorgina Brett’s music is created using her voice and effects pedals\, creating instant choirs of sound\, often in an hypnotic style. The point of this music is not only to captivate with extraordinary timing and melodic style but also to help the listener to relax\, in our ever-increasingly distracted world. Her double album “Nonsense A and Nonsense B” is of purely vocal works with no ‘deliberate’ words or lyrics. The albums show the voice as an instrument\, and as a vehicle for emotional expression. “So much music is made in order to make us feel something so as to manipulate us to buy or to follow… this album lets your thoughts be whatever they want to be.” The albums also play with the idea that we like to interpret\, constantly listening for meaning instead of just listening.\nhttps://www.georginabrett.co.uk\nN/O/E/W/A\nI am a quiet noisemaker\, soundsculptor\, free form improviser\, exploring noise and silence\, synthetic and natural sounds\, and everything in between\, using electronic and analogue instruments\, objects\, found sounds and human voice. my name’s Levente Dudas\, and I am the creative power behind the musical project called N/O/E/W/A.\nhttp://noewacreativemusic.co.uk/\nCOVID SAFETY\nPlease be considerate of others who may be more concerned than you regarding social distancing etc. Some participants are at increased risk from Covid\, so face masks are encouraged and if you are unwell on the day\, rather than struggling to attend please contact the organisers for a replacement ticket for a future date.\nCurated by Martin Lau www.martinlau.net\nPresented by OPEN Ealing www.openealing.com

Please contact the organisers directly through this page\, one per applicant.\nThere is no bar\, so please bring your own refreshments.\nThis edition features sets from:\nTarik Haskić\nCurrently based in Slovenia\, Tarik’s artistic practice includes free improvisation\, performance art\, experimental music and installation work. He is interested in the creation of listening spaces in which the exploration of inner and outer environments can occur. Focusing on the creative process\, presence and the relationship of sound and people play an important role in his work.\nTarik often performs with self made music instruments made from recycled material\, modular synths and field recordings. He has performed extensively both solo and in collaborative ensembles such as Listening Circuits\, Tzika and Apocalypse Jazz Unit. His work has been performed in Iklectik and Hundred Years Gallery in London\, Oooh Festival in Italy and ZEZ in Croatia.\nIn celebration of Ealing Extranormal Vol.9\, Tarik will perform a new participatory piece for modular synth\, field recordings and humming voice called “Hum a Tide”. The piece will follow a text-based score and will involve (voluntary) audience participation.\nhttps://listeningcircuits.bandcamp.com/\nSwilly\nSwilly is either off-kilter guitar accompanied ranting half-songs covering various obsessions and concerns of its sole member\, or loops of noise\, soundscapes and rhythm with more ranting. For tonight he will be in more soundscape-y territory and has been challenged to lay off the HARSH pedal as a get out of no-ideas jail card.\nhttps://swil-e.bandcamp.com\nGeorgina Brett\nGeorgina Brett’s music is created using her voice and effects pedals\, creating instant choirs of sound\, often in an hypnotic style. The point of this music is not only to captivate with extraordinary timing and melodic style but also to help the listener to relax\, in our ever-increasingly distracted world. Her double album Nonsense A and Nonsense B is of purely vocal works with no ‘deliberate’ words or lyrics. The albums show the voice as an instrument\, and as a vehicle for emotional expression. “So much music is made in order to make us feel something so as to manipulate us to buy or to follow.. this album let’s your thoughts be whatever they want to be.” The albums also play with the idea that we like to interpret\, constantly listening for meaning instead of just listening.\nhttps://www.georginabrett.co.uk\nBlack Arrows\nBlack Arrows is multidisciplinary artist Alice Karveli\, tearing rips through the fabric of Spacetime with sonic implements\, sometimes gently\, sometimes harshly\, at times solo and others collaboratively.\nhttps://blackarrows.bandcamp.com/\nCOVID SAFETY\nThe venue has ventilation drawn from the air outside. Please be considerate of others who may be more concerned than you regarding social distancing etc. Some participants are at increased risk from Covid\, so please wear a face mask.\nCurated by Martin Lau www.martinlau.net\nPresented by OPEN Ealing www.openealing.com

SUMMARY:Sofia Vaisman-Maturana/Neil Metcalfe/Georgina Brett/Douglas Benford.
DESCRIPTION:Concert of Improvised music organised by Douglas Benford \nDoors 3:30 | music 4pm | entry £5 \nSofia Vaisman-Maturana\nSantiago\, Chile 1993. Graduated in Music Composition from Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile\, she has had several profesional premieres of her work such as: ‘Anuari’ for Orchestra at the Netzahuacoyotl hall (Mexico City\, 2014) or ‘Un puro en el Bellas Artes’ for classical guitar (Valparaiso\, Chile) in 2016. She has also composed for some theatre plays such as ‘Bariona\, Or\, The Son of Thunder’ written by Jean-Paul Sartre\, and ’Alegria’ written and directed by Roxana Gomez. As a cellist\, she has had formal and informal education since the age of 12\, becoming familiar with various kinds of repertoire. She’s part of the London Improvisers Orchestra and has played in several improvisation gigs in London and Chile. She has recently finished her Master in Music Composition at King’s College of London and will soon continue with her PhD studies.\nyoutu.be/watch \nNeil Metcalfe\nNeil Metcalfe has been active on London improvising scene since the 70s. He has played with\, among many others: Evan Parker\, Roscoe Mitchell\, Paul Dunmall\, Lol Coxhill and Tony Marsh and was a member of the Spontaneous Music Ensemble\, considered by many to be the flagship European Improvising Ensemble.\ndiscogs.com/Neil-Metcalfe \nGeorgina Brett\nGeorgina Brett’s music is created using her voice and effects pedals\, creating instant choirs of sound\, often in an hypnotic style. “So much music is made in order to make us feel something so as to manipulate us to buy or to follow.. this album lets your thoughts be whatever they want to be.” The albums also play with the idea that we like to interpret\, constantly listening for meaning instead of just listening. Georgina’s music adheres to some avant-garde principles using harmonious parameters\, instead of the more dissonant style of it’s post WWII exponents. Georgina’s music is also gradually becoming a great vehicle for more experimental work\, delving into expressive work which plays with the rich world of the media\, politics\, history\, using matrices\, semiotics and phonetics.\nhttps://georginabrett.bandcamp.com \nDouglas Benford\nAs a composer and sound artist\, Douglas has been involved in various audio genres since the late 1980s\, performing at many institutions/venues in the UK (Bristol’s Arnolfini\, London’s Science Museum\, Cafe Oto\, Tate Modern\, The Roundhouse\, ICA and Glasgow’s CCA)\, festivals worldwide (Mutek\, Synch\, Transmediale) and had installation work in numerous UK galleries (Inc. London\, Swansea\, Gloucestershire and Essex). After many electronica releases in his ‘si-cut.db’ and other guises\, in the past decade he has focused on acoustic improvisation and installations\, using field recordings\, classical instruments\, vocals and children’s toys. As well as often playing with the London Improvisers Orchestra and Confront Recordings/ Mark Wastell’s The Seen collective\, his regular collaborators include Blanca Regina\, poet Tamar Yoseloff\, Angharad Davies\, Lina Lapelyte\, Steve Beresford\, Adam Bohman\, Clive Bell\, Mandhira De Saram\, sculptor Rob Olins\, as well as – in the past – pop group Saint Etienne\, Jem Finer\, Momus\, Rod Thomas (Bright Light Bright Light)\, Scanner\, Stephan Mathieu and Andrew Weatherall. He was also co-curator with Iris Garrelfs\, established in 1996\, of Sprawl audio events in London for over 12 years.\ndouglasbenford.org.uk

SUMMARY:Reflections in Sound : A Healing Journey through the Human Voice
DESCRIPTION:The human voice is the original instrument that can access facets of the psyche that are often unreachable by known means. \nJoin us in sacred circle to explore the profound wisdom of the human voice\, the most primordial and direct navigator to the wilderness within. Together we will harmonise our breath and vocalise our soul equations to create a heightened synergy of shared intention and manifestation. We will journey through our intuitive tones and soul chants\, recite powerfully transmutting ancient mantra codes and immerse in the universal language of spirit to liberate aspects of self that WE are not\, so that we become all that WE will be. \nGuided by the heart opening plant spirit of CACAO. The heart when feels safe and embracing become a living portal to deep presence and pure creative flow. \nFacilitated by : Sound Artists and Healing Sound Practitioners Lani Rocillo\,Georgina Brett\, Maxwell Reynish and Hanna-Jade Browne. \nLANI ROCILLO \nis a musician trained in Sound Therapy\, Energy Medicine and Shamanic Practice. Inspired by the holistic approach in the creative process\, she sees the deep significance of the graceful infusion of our rich ancient wisdom traditions\, emerging spiritual technologies and contemporary platforms in guiding the way to our ever accelerating personal and planetary metamorphosis. \nShe holds ceremonial gatherings\, facilitates personal therapeutic sessions and collaborates in art and music projects that aim to redefine cultural boundaries towards strengthening the unified purpose of nature. \nwww.soundbeing.co.uk \nGEORGINA BRETT \nGeorgina’s vocal matrices are made to stimulate auditory adventuring\, to soothe\, to baffle the rational mind .. to challenge and shock. Her evolving instant choirs inhabit spaces from Palestrina to Ligeti. from Steve Reich to something other worldly…. This January Georgina performed at The National Portrait Gallery\, with a work derived from the journals of Picasso’s lovers and kernels of music from Stravinsky and Satie. \nMAXWELL REYNISH \nA multi-instrumentalist\, artist\, working with sound\, meditation\, plants and ritual. Collaborates with various artists\, musicians and practioners of therapeutical practices. \nCombining musical traditions and sacred ceremonial sounds from across the world into a language we all speak\, fostering a collective space in which to enter into altered states of consciousness through evocation and the sculpting of such sounds\, and where sensitivity to vibration allows intuitive translation of spatial awareness. \nFacilitating sound meditation\, ceremony\, workshops and other spaces where people can nurture from an intuitive place and bring about stillness of body and mind. \nHANNA-JADE BROWNE \nis an integrative therapist and musician who has spent many years studying and practicing natural healing.
