This piece was sung for a good friend Lee Harris (RIP), who was going through a difficult time. A friend of his was in the hospital with a terminal illness and Lee came to stay with me overnight. He was so distraught, after much conversation i said i would sing him a song to help him relax.. so we both put headphones on (I always record with headphones as it prevents feedback) and he listened as i sang.
This is a beautiful song with melodic and harmonic development. Simple melody lines and percussive elements guide the song along. This feels like a meditation to me. Halfway through i use anomalies in the delay pedals to create a junction where the harmony prevails but the melodies change… the percussive sss and sshh and tttt sounds bringing about a more sparse section with high notes..the piece ends with a simple high rhythmic ostinato and sh sh.
